I have a stomach ache even though I take pantoprazole. I changed my diet a week ago because of this.

Hello,
To answer your question, I would need more information
When you mention that you have pain despite taking pantoprazole. Is this a new treatment of pantoprazole? Or is it a treatment that was effective before?
How long have you had this pain?
Can you describe the pain to me?
Are there times when the pain is worse? Morning or evening? While eating or fasting?
When do you take your pantoprazole? Do you take it 30 minutes before eating?
Have you tried any other medications to try to solve the problem?
You mention that you have diabetes? Can you give me a list of your medications?
You mention that you have changed your diet. Can you tell me exactly what you changed? Did the changes improve your symptoms?
The answers will help me to advise you
Thank you

Hello !
I have been taking pantoprazole every day for about 4 years and it used to work. It's been a week that I have stomach pain despite taking Pepcid and my pantoprazole. For my diabetes I take glyburide 2.5mg and jardinance 25mg. I used to drink a lot of carbonated water and was told that it could irritate my stomach as well as spicy food. I haven't had it in a week and it hasn't changed anything
That's it!

Hi,
Is it a pain in the bottom of the stomach? Or is it reflux symptoms?
Is the pain constant during the day? Or are there times when it is worse?
Do you smoke?
Do you take your pantoprazole 30 minutes before eating? The medication is much more effective when taken half an hour before food
Are you taking any other medications? Or over-the-counter products? Or natural health products?
Can you identify anything that would have changed around the time the pain started?
Thank you

It happens in my esophagus and throat. It's worse a few hours after eating. I don't smoke. Yes I take my pantoprazole 30 minutes before breakfast in the morning. I take citalopram and quetiapine. I don't take any natural health products. I don't think anything has changed that could have led to this... Maybe stress? I moved to another city a month ago... Started a new job 3 weeks ago..

Hi,
Your situation sounds like a case of reflux that has gotten worse. Certainly, the anxiety of a move, as well as a new job could have been factors, stress can impact the body in a big way.
It is possible to reduce gastroesophageal reflux disease by changing certain lifestyle habits. Here are some steps you can take to prevent future episodes of reflux:
  • Eating small meals more frequently (five to six times a day);
  • Avoiding foods that aggravate symptoms, such as mint and fatty or spicy foods (Note: do not eliminate entire food groups from your diet without consulting a health care professional)
  • Avoid drinking alcohol and soft drinks (you've already stopped the soft drinks, that's good);
  • Avoiding caffeine (e.g. coffee, tea, cola, chocolate)
  • Avoid exercising or bending over after eating
  • Avoid wearing tight clothing
  • Raise the head of the bed about 10 cm.
It may also be helpful to avoid lying down immediately after a meal (minimum 2 hours), to quit smoking (you are not a smoker, that's good), to manage your stress (a possible factor in your case) and to reach a healthy weight.
If despite these measures, taking pantoprazole as well as Pepcid do not seem to help, I recommend that you make an appointment with your doctor or talk to your pharmacist, he or she can make suggestions to your doctor that may help.
I hope this answers your question, if there are any other concerns please feel free to contact me.
Thank you.
