Should I consult my family doctor?

Hello!
Your problem seems to persist?
How many days have you had headaches and stomach aches?
Have you had any episodes of diarrhea or vomiting?
Any particular foods that have been introduced recently?

Hello,
For 5 days now. It started last Wednesday morning with a heartache that persisted until Thursday. Then headache and stomach ache. Like a burning sensation in the stomach, today that takes the breath away.
No vomiting or diarrhea. Lots of stomach gas. The impression of having an enlarged stomach even if I eat very little
Little improvement with gaviscon and omeprazole. And my headache persists despite advil or tylenol.
No new food that comes to mind...

I see that you have been using omeprazole (usually available by prescription), did you have a history of heartburn or acid reflux in the past?
Or is this your first episode?
Heartburn that persists over a period of 14 days should definitely be investigated but for now we can try to find a treatment to relieve the symptoms
PS: Have you noticed any fever? any coughing?

No cough, and I took my temperature earlier today and it was 35.3
I have a history of acid reflux but often controlled with famotidine or gaviscon, I have not seen a doctor for this particular problem. I do not have a prescription for omeprazole, but it is available if you ask the pharmacist because famotidine was not available
This is the first episode that persists for so long and causes me headaches.
What treatment do you suggest?
Thank you

Indeed, after 5 days of continuous heartburn and headaches, it is important to consult your family doctor. You can make an appointment right away and follow how the situation evolves until your appointment
As for treatment, in the meantime I suggest you stop taking ibuprofen (Advil) if you are taking it for the headaches and stay with acetaminophen (Tylenol) because Advil is very irritating on the stomach
Secondly, continue with omeprazole ensuring maximum effectiveness by taking the tablet 30 minutes BEFORE a meal and not while eating. Secondly, if not relieved, you can ADD famotidine/ranitidine if you can find it in a pharmacy, taking it twice a day
Also, to limit reflux I recommend these measures
  • Smaller meals, more often during the day than large portions
  • Follow a non-irritating diet (avoid caffeine, alcohol, citrus fruits, tomatoes, soft drinks, chocolate, etc.)
  • Raise the head of the bed 10-15cm at bedtime
Follow the symptoms until the appointment with the doctor for an investigation.
