Can activated charcoal help with irritable bowel syndrome?

28-year-old womana year ago
I have been diagnosed with type D irritable bowel syndrome. I do not take any medication except fiber under the advice of my doctor and gastroenterologist. During the attacks, the stomach aches and pressure in the lower back are very uncomfortable. I will not be seeing my doctor again soon so here is my question I also take a daily vitamin D supplement during the winter. I also take a daily vitamin D supplement during the winter, iron under prescription during menstruation and naproxen during menstruation as well.

Unfortunately, the data on activated charcoal is not of good quality and does not indicate that it would be beneficial for this purpose.
There are antispasmodics available to relieve discomfort but they have possible side effects. I encourage you to talk to your pharmacist who can customize uh plan with you or suggest options to your doctor.
Sincerely,
