Can I take Synthroid with food?

Hello, I am newly diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. I am starting Synthroid. However, I don't have many symptoms associated with this disease and I don't know the cause. I was rather anxious, I lost weight and I had many infections (vaginal, urinary, oral herpes lately)

Hello Ma'am, thank you for your question! Treatment of hypothyroidism will be based on lab values but also a clinical evaluation of your case. For taking Synthroid, you will just need to make sure you take it with the same habit every day, whether you decide to take it in the morning with breakfast or at night on an empty stomach. At your next visit and/or blood test, the dose will be adjusted (if necessary of course) according to your habits :) It will only need to be ideally spaced at least 3 hours apart from the multivitamin intake. Also, if you start a new medication, OTC or natural health product, you will need to talk to your pharmacist to assess if there is an interaction or problem. As for the cause of hypothyroidism, your doctor will be in the best position to discuss this further for you. Hopefully I have helped you, I remain available if you have any further questions!
