What to take when Laxaday is not working, but not in suppository form?

21-year-old woman3 years ago
Hello, I suffer from occasional constipation and usually with Laxaday after a few days I am able to go to the bathroom, but it's been 4 days now that I am unable even with Laxaday. I have increased my intake of fiber, water etc, nothing helps. I have bowel movements and the urge to go to the bathroom, but it's like I have a rock too big to pass and it's too painful. I was wondering what to take to help that wouldn't be suppositories, maybe milk of magnesium? Also maybe my only solution will be suppositories but if I could avoid.... Thank you very much

Good morning, ma'am,
Is the Lax-A-Day at least partially effective? Have you tried other options? Are you currently taking medication?

Not very effective,
I have been taking synthroid for a long time and I take Fetzima (Levomilnacipram)

The last time this happened I took ex-lax in the form of a small square of chocolate but since I am in college every day I have not taken any more as I am not able to go to the bathroom to evacuate

Thanks for the information!
If Lax-A-Day is at least partially effective, I suggest taking it twice a day instead of once, for a few days, to help soften the stool.
Other options by mouth are Senokot, (can cause cramping), and lactulose, which is available without a prescription, but behind the counter at the pharmacy.
The cause of the constipation must be addressed. First and foremost, and for long-term prevention, it is strongly suggested to increase fiber consumption, for example by adding fruits and vegetables to the diet, brown bread, brown rice, oatmeal, enriched cereals, etc., and to drink a lot of fluids to help soften the stools.
I hope this has been helpful, and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me
