My daughter has cutaneous larva migrans. Is there a risk to family members? And how long does it take for the Ivermectin to work?

My daughter has cutaneous larva migrans following trip to Indonesia. Back home, Ivermectin 10mg/ml single dose oral solution. Possible contagion between other family members? Precautions? Can larvae spread to sheets? How long does it take for Tx to be effective?

Good morning, Madam,

According to my research, the risk of contagion to other family members is practically zero. The larvae are "caught" in the skin and therefore cannot infect you. There are no precautions to take to avoid contagion.

The action time of the drug is a few days. This means that the larvae should die within that time. However, it is not uncommon for the lesions to last longer, especially if your daughter scratches a lot. Make sure you have a good treatment to prevent itching and avoid infection of the skin by scratching lesions.
