Are the side effects of the antidepressant venlafaxine (Effexor) reversible upon discontinuation of the drug (increased cholesterol, heart, liver, kidneys)?

I took effexor for 8 years and had side effects like hot flashes and headaches. I was taking 75 mg for anxiety and depressive symptoms and I stopped gradually. I stopped because I was afraid of the more serious side effects that can affect the heart or kidneys or liver.

First, it is important to note that Effexor has a neutral profile at the kidney level. As for the side effects on the heart and liver, they are related to weight gain, increased cholesterol and blood triglycerides.

When the antidepressant is stopped, if the person has a healthy and active lifestyle, there is no reason why the cholesterol level should not go down. The important thing is to eat a varied diet and exercise.

Of course, it is also important to make sure that the cause of the Effexor (depression? anxiety?) is treated, because if it is not, it will be more difficult to have a balanced and active lifestyle.
