After 3 doctor's appointments, several prescriptions and 1 antibiotic, I still have a cough. Could it be whooping cough? What should I do?

I have been sick for 1 and a half months. Started with a cold then coughing fits and bronchial pain, wheezing, became sinusitis and continuous coughing with retching and vomiting with the coughing fits. 3 appointments at the doctor. first one gives me ventolin, 2nd asthmanex and 3rd antibio 10 days for the sinusitis. I finish my antibios in 2 days and the cough does not stop. One of the doctors talked about whooping cough but did not take a sample.

Hello, I would first like to mention that the advice given here is only as a pharmacist who cannot make a diagnosis, but only to better guide you. Based on the symptoms, it could be what we call a post-infectious cough. Normally clarithromycin is effective in treating pertussis, so even if there was no swab, the pertussis should have been eliminated in 7 days. Clarithromycin is also a treatment for sinusitis, although sometimes there is resistance and the sinusitis persists. Therefore, it will be necessary to consult again, to eliminate the persistence of sinusitis or the presence of pneumonia, X-rays can be done. Finally, if it is a post-infectious cough, pumps or even in severe cases oral corsticosteroids can be prescribed. I hope this answers your question!
