Hello,
Neocitran contains several ingredients, usually phenylephrine, a decongestant. This ingredient, especially when taken during the first trimester, may have been associated with an increased risk of abnormalities in the child. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid this type of product during pregnancy.
If you have congestion or a runny nose, the safest option is a salt water nasal douche (Hydrasense, Sinus rinse) which does not contain medication. If a decongestant is desired, it is possible to add a decongestant spray (ex: Dristan, Otrivin) to the saline water for a maximum period of 7 days. This product acts locally and can therefore be used during pregnancy.
