Endometrin contains progesterone in the form of vaginal effervescent tablets. The few studies that have looked at its effectiveness in maintaining a pregnancy in a woman with a history of miscarriage show mixed results. One meta-analysis study (which combines multiple studies to increase the odds of determining whether or not this drug is effective) published in 2017 showed that progesterone use during pregnancy decreased the risk of miscarriage by 47% (Ref: PMID 29392134). In other words, the risk dropped from 21.7% to 13.0%. The authors of the study mention however that it is through the mouth that progesterone seems to have the greatest effect. Another study (Ref.: PMID: 27823998) showed that cervical banding was more effective than intravaginal progesterone.
