I am taking Coversyl 8 mg, and I would like to stop it temporarily before my next doctor's visit. How long will it take for the active ingredient to be eliminated from my body?

I have changed my diet, lost weight, am active regularly and would like to know if I still need this medication and can check my BP regularly. I want to avoid the negative effects of a long term prescription.... if possible. Thank you for your help.

Hello, to answer your first question. The elimination of this medication may take a few days (about 2 to 3).

However, it would be good to know your blood pressure. If your blood pressure is within the target range (less than 140/90 for non-diabetics and less than 130/80 for diabetics), it may also be due to the effect of the medication, and removing it could affect your control
Also, in hypertension, there is often a large part of the problem that does not necessarily have a known cause. So in some cases, lifestyle changes are not always enough. Blood pressure also tends to increase with age
Also, if you have concomitant diseases, such as heart problems or diabetes, the medication often plays another role in addition to its blood pressure lowering effect. In these cases, it is even more harmful to withdraw it, especially if the drug does not cause side effects in you
Finally, for long-term adverse effects, there is no stress about it. There are possible side effects, but taking the medication daily does not cause any long-term adverse effects. There are many more benefits to having good control of your blood pressure
I would suggest that you try half a dose for a few days and take your pressure regularly before trying to think about stopping it completely. If your pressure doesn't go back up and stays well controlled after a few days, perhaps you could try stopping it completely (if you are being treated only for hypertension). If you have other health problems, I suggest you call your pharmacy directly to discuss them
I hope this answer is complete, don't hesitate if you have other questions.
