I have been taking citalopram for 2 years following a depression and I would like to stop it gradually but I don't know how to go about it.

Hello Ms,
If this is your first episode of depression, practice guidelines suggest treating for at least 6 months after your depressive symptoms have resolved. A shorter treatment period may put you at greater risk for a relapse in the future.
If this is not your first episode, most guides agree that very long-term treatment is best.
With this in mind, it is usually recommended that the dose of citalopram be decreased in 7-14 day increments. Your pharmacist will be able to work with you to develop a schedule and adjust the strength of your tablets or cut them if deemed necessary. He/she will be in the best position to personalize the withdrawal and ensure a close follow-up with you, while keeping your doctor informed of the process.
All in all, I strongly suggest that you discuss this with your doctor so that you can benefit from the best possible follow-up.
I hope I have helped you, and if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me

Hello,
Thank you very much for your answer. I will then discuss it with my pharmacist to evaluate the continuation, not having a family doctor.
Thank you for your help1
