I suffered a urinary tract infection with ATARAX (hydroxyzine). Do you have another antihistamine that is as good to suggest?

I am taking painkillers (oxycontin and oxycodone) and I am having more and more side effects (itching, heart palpitations, insomnia, etc). I tried hydroxyzine, which worked well, but I had a painful urinary tract infection, and from what I see on the side effects of this medication, this problem can occur. The pill also had the same bright green coating as Atarax. Unless it was a coincidence, I think that's where the UTI problem came from. I'm looking for something that might be its equivalent without the green coating

Hello, the alternative depends on how many times a day you take Atarax and also on the reason why you are taking this medication. First of all, before making any changes in your medication, I strongly suggest that you speak with your doctor and pharmacist because many factors can contribute to the development of a urinary tract infection. If your health care professionals think that Atarax may be the cause, here is what I suggest to replace it: Cetirizine (Reactine) may be a good alternative to Atarax. Cetirizine is as effective if not more effective than Atarax in reducing itching. However, cetirizine does not cause drowsiness like Atarax so if you were using Atarax to combat insomnia, it would be a good idea to talk to your doctor about adding another medication to help with the insomnia

I started taking Adventyl a month ago to treat my pain but I'm wondering if there could be an interaction with loxycontin or bupropion as my pain has increased a lot.i also have several terrible side effects with this medication and loxycontin works very poorly since I've been taking Adventyl. It's quite urgent that I take it off but I've been on 25mg for 2 weeks now. If I suddenly take it, is it dangerous? I've only been taking it for 1 month

I am sorry to hear that your pain has increased and that you are having side effects with Adventyl. There is no interaction between Adventyl and Oxycontin, however there is an interaction between Bupropion and Adventyl that may increase the effectiveness and side effects of Adventyl. Usually, with the dose of Adventyl you are taking this interaction has very little impact as the dose is low. If you do not tolerate this medication well, the dose can be reduced or stopped. I recommend that you talk with your pharmacist and doctor before stopping Adventyl. It is always best to stop taking Adventyl slowly by lowering the dose gradually to avoid withdrawal. It is best to talk to your doctor or pharmacist

Thank you
This morning my back pain is 2x as bad and I have a lot of side effects (numb head, weird taste in the mouth, faint, light headedness, stomach ache, etc.) Yet I haven't made any changes.the problem is that I don't think my doctor can do much.it's so hard work today and I can't get there (too weak) and I can't wait in the emergency room either.i know the health care system well enough to know that it's a mess in the hospitals (lack of resources) and budget. I went to see if my pharmacist (unfortunately very incompetent but close to my home) could bring me some cetirizine but I think the problem is more serious and it won't help my back pain.

I am so sorry you are feeling so bad today. The side effects you describe to me seem to be related to either Adventyl or Atarax or a combination of the two. Unfortunately, the person who is best able to help you is really your doctor. Only he or she knows your entire medical history, your health problems and the medications you are taking. I know it's not always easy to get help. I believe that in your case, your doctor will be able to help you with your ailments. Good luck in your efforts.

Thank you
My doctor is not available at the moment and my appointment in Montreal is on Wednesday and I don't know how I'm going to get there.I was thinking of getting a local anesthetic to at least go a little bit pain free but the doctor is not available.I've gone from 10 MG doxycontin to 20 MG but that doesn't even come close to taking the pain away.Unfortunately my doctor doesn't know much about pain.I'm the one who tells him what would be good (according to the research I'm doing). I told him that a rotation of opoids can prevent tolerance but it seems to be too late. In the past, I have been on 40MG of doxycontin but it gave me a lot of problems for so little benefit. Tolerance came pretty quickly. The only thing that works very well but that I don't want to do again is to change the pain in the place I was. I was making cuts on my arms and for a while the pain in the back was almost gone because the pain in the arm was stronger.I was very relieved to have a break from the back pain because I don't have any, but it's not a good solution because it closes a lot of doors with this behavior. Then I went to the psychiatry at the hospital, but since my immune system was very weak, I got H1N1.I thought I was going to die because I couldn't breathe.so I had another big bout in the hospital but this time in intensive care.I say this to tell people that this is not a good solution.did I have any relapses of hurting myself? Yes, but only for short periods of time. I will not go back to psychiatry, it was completely useless for me. To make a pain center in the Outaouais and to put all the necessary money back into the health system is urgent. To take money away at the beginning of a mandate and to put it back just before the elections is to take people for pies. It is time to change this electoral system. Thank you Maryam for taking the time to write to me, it is much appreciated.

It is a pleasure to write to you. Since I don't know all your medical history and the medications you have tried in the past, it is difficult to suggest alternatives. If you feel well enough to go to your appointment tomorrow, it may help to talk with your doctor. Some medications that might be alternatives to Adventyl are duloxetine, pregabalin or gabapentin. Also, your idea of rotating opioids is a good one, it's never too late to try. If you have the chance to see a physiotherapist, it could also help reduce the pain
