I started taking Metformin because I have PCOS and I am trying to have a baby. This month my cycle has been longer than usual and I have heavy bleeding. Is this normal? How long does it take for this medication to work?

I have been taking this medication for a month and a half. I take 500mg three times a day. I was also supposed to take Letrozole for 5 days to increase my chances of ovulation, but due to my disturbed cycle, I did not take it at the right time, will the Letrozole be effective anyway?

Hello!
First of all, concerning metformin, it is difficult to blame it for the menstrual change at the moment. We need more time to assess the effects of metformin, i.e. use over a longer period of time, and a better knowledge of your history.
Regarding the effectiveness of metformin, several studies on this subject show different results. Assuming that in your case this treatment is prescribed to resume ovulation, if it is to be effective, it can usually take 4 to 6 months.
Regarding the effectiveness of Letrozole, it must indeed be taken at the right time to ensure that the treatment works (from day 3 to day 7 of the cycle unless otherwise advised by your doctor).
Regarding your current situation, it is important not to delay consulting your doctor if the bleeding persists and remains abundant. In case of doubt, do not hesitate to contact your pharmacist in order to evaluate the need for a medical consultation, depending on the duration and intensity of your symptoms.
We hope this answers your question adequately. Please do not hesitate to contact me for more details!
