Is it a copper-based IUD or a hormone-based IUD? Is the bleeding all day long or intermittent?

I have been wearing the Kyleena IUD that releases levonorgestrel since 2021 and since March 14, 2023 to today March 25, 2023 I have been bleeding all day long and not spotting but menstrual bleeding with painful cramps. I am the type of woman who has tried many birth control pills and the patch but I was always spotting, so I had an IUD installed. However, I continued to have spotting with this one, but now with 12 days of bleeding, it's not just spotting but menstrual discharge that doesn't stop. So I wonder if I have a problem with my IUD? Or a health problem?

Thank you for the information. If the bleeding continues for 14 days without improvement or gets worse, you should see a doctor.
Anti-inflammatory medications such as Advil can sometimes help relieve menstrual cramps and decrease the amount of bleeding. You will just need to confirm with your pharmacist that this option is safe for you.
