I’m on vacation and just ran out of saline solution to clear out my baby’s nose. Can I use bottled water instead?

My baby and I seem to have allergies here in Mexico. I had brought the single use nasal drops from Hydrasense but I used them all. I’m wondering if I could put bottled water in them to reuse...?

Hi there,
I recommend against the replacement of saline water by bottled water. In fact, using bottled water will be very irritant for your baby's nose.
This is explained by the fact that bottled water does not contain enough diluted salts to be isotonic (meaning that the cells that will be in contact with the bottled water will absorb some of it and as a result could die). Isotonic water (such as saline water) does not cause absorption of water from cells, and thus is less irritant on the nose.
😊
The best option here is to find a new set of single use drops in Mexico.
Have a great day,
Alexandre
