I have a metallic taste in my mouth and it is numb. Is this normal or is it an allergic reaction? Should I stop it?

Hello, I have been taking Amitriptyline 10 mg in low dose for my migraines for a week. I have the taste of metal in my mouth and it is numb in the morning. It is very unpleasant.

Good morning, ma'am,
This is a possible side effect of the medication, particularly its propensity to cause dry mouth. This does not necessarily indicate a problem and may diminish over time for some people.
If the situation is uncomfortable for you and/or may compromise your ability to take the medication, I invite you to discuss it with your pharmacist who may consider adjusting the dose, keeping your doctor informed of his or her actions, and following up closely with you.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
