My son has a dry cough that persists and prevents him from sleeping for a few days. He even coughs to vomit sometimes. No fever.

I wanted to know what to give him or if he should be consulted

Hello Madam, I am sorry to read about his troubles!
In order to better advise you, would it be possible to tell me if he has any other symptoms such as a stuffy or runny nose, even a little, sneezing or other? Does the coughing only happen at night?
Is your child currently on medication?
Have you tried anything for the symptoms?

He has a very runny nose. We do the nasal shower. I give him tylenol and stodal. I try to give him spoons of honey too. He has a cough all day long. When he starts coughing it can last several minutes before it subsides! At night he coughs a lot too! He has been diagnosed with mild asthma as a baby.

Thank you for the information.
You did the right thing with nasal hygiene (followed by suctioning secretions if your baby doesn't know how to 'blow his nose' yet), I encourage it as often as necessary and at least 30 minutes before meals and bedtime. There is no maximum number of times per day. It's a little uncomfortable but works wonders to keep sinus secretions from running down the back of the throat, which is one of the main causes of coughing.
Also encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids according to his or her preference, even if it means giving smaller amounts more often.
If the cough persists for more than 7 days without improvement, a doctor should be consulted as a precaution.
I am available if you have any other questions!
