My son has an abscessed tooth. The doctor prescribed statex which is not working, what can he take?

He is in a lot of pain, the statex is not working. I have supeudol (he's already taken it) and he has some tramadol left over from the last dental infection, which was like 5 months ago. I guess he can't combine. He took the statex over an hour ago. If you can tell me what would be the best combination, if he can take Advil or naproxen or Tylenol at the same time.

Hello and thank you for your question,
How old is your son?
If he took the statex, I would not add supeudol or tramadol indeed. I would combine more with Advil and/or Tylenol.
Also, I would like to confirm that your son also has a prescription for an antibiotic for his abces? and since when is he treated?
I look forward to hearing from you :)

He is 19 years old, and yes he has antibiotics. Penicillin since yesterday. He has only taken two doses so far. Thank you for your answer.

Thanks for the additional information,
So the antibiotic should take effect by tomorrow morning.
I recommend taking advil 200mg, 2 tablets 3 times a day and tylenol 500mg, 2 tablets every 6 hours (if your son is not taking any other medication right now and is not asthmatic). If the pain is not controlled with these medications, add the statex prescribed by the dentist. This should control the pain.
If it is not, a call with the dentist would be warranted.
I hope this helps a little :)
Have a nice day,
Emmanuelle
