My 16 month old daughter has had diarrhea for 5 days. Is there anything I can do?

Hello, my 16 month old daughter threw up last Sunday night. Since then, she has had diarrhea. We are trying to keep her hydrated, but I think it's starting to be long, 5 days. Her general condition is relatively good and she does not have a fever. She is still eating, but she has less appetite than usual. We are trying to give her food that is easier to digest. It may not be related, but she also seems to have less balance. Should I consider seeking help?

Hello,
There is no need to consult a doctor unless your child
  • is vomiting more than 6 or 7 times a day;
  • has a dry tongue;
  • seems to urinate less;
  • has stools that contain a little blood;
  • has a hard, tender stomach
  • continuous diarrhea (more than 6 stools per day) for more than 5 days
In cases of gastroenteritis, it can take up to 7 days for the stool to return to normal
To rehydrate, some rehydration solutions are sold in pharmacies or a home-made solution can be made. Indeed, during diarrhea or vomiting, we lose not only water, but also electrolytes, so we must take them back
If your child is no longer vomiting, it is recommended to resume regular feeding, which helps to heal the intestine
I am linking you to the very complete article on the site Naître et Grandir on the subject
It is my pleasure,
