Hello,
Pinworms are often asymptomatic, but can also cause anal itching, especially at night, and sleep disturbance. The worms are rarely found in the stool, but can be seen by doing the flashlight test, which involves inspecting your daughter's perianal area 1 to 3 hours after she is asleep.
If you have done a visual inspection and your symptoms are consistent with the infection, your pharmacist can prescribe a treatment for you, your 2 year old daughter and other family members if necessary. Doses are adjusted according to weight, so make sure you have them on hand.
Pinworms are transmitted by the fecal-oral route, so wash your hands frequently, especially before meals and after going to the bathroom, change and wash bedding, pajamas and underwear in hot water daily (do not shake them to avoid spreading the eggs), and wash the shower and toilet frequently.
Have a good day,
