21-year-old womana year ago
Hello, I am 5 weeks pregnant on Monday and I took two advils of 200mg each and I wanted to know if it could cause a miscarriage or if it is dangerous for me since I am 5 weeks pregnant.

Hello !
There is a controversial association between the use of Advil in early pregnancy and the risk of spontaneous abortion. Some studies indicate that there is a risk and others do not. Thus, it is recommended to avoid taking Advil in early pregnancy in women with a history of repeated spontaneous abortions
Also, it is recommended to avoid using Advil from the 20th week of pregnancy because it could lead to kidney problems in the fetus.
I would like to mention that Advil is the original name of ibuprofen, a NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). These recommendations apply to all NSAIDs (aspirin, naproxen, diclofenac, celecoxib).
If you need to take an over-the-counter medication to relieve pain, you can safely take acetaminophen (Tylenol). Be sure not to take more than 4000 mg per day.
I invite you to contact me again if you have any further questions!
