Hello Madam,
In the context that a report of a case of thrombosis following the administration of this product is under investigation, the Comité d'Immunisation du Québec recommends that the use of the Astrazeneca vaccine be suspended for the time being in persons under the age of 55.
However, in your condition, vaccination against COVID-19 is recommended for you and your children. If you are 55 years of age or older, Astrazeneca's vaccine may be an option. Based on all available evidence, Thrombosis Canada believes that people who receive AstraZeneca's vaccine are not at increased risk of blood clots compared to the general population.
In fact, people who contract COVID-19 have a much higher risk of blood clots, which affect about 1 in 20 people hospitalized with COVID-19, and about 1 in 100 people with COVID-19 who are not hospitalized. Thrombosis Canada strongly recommends that the public get vaccinated against COVID-19, including with AstraZeneca's vaccine . The benefits of preventing blood clots and other diseases caused by COVID-19 far outweigh the potential risks. Among others, it is recommended for at-risk groups: "people with an inherited bleeding disorder (e.g., factor V Leiden mutation), people who have a history of bleeding disorders, and people who are at risk of bleeding, Factor V Leiden mutation)."
I invite you to read Thrombosis Canada's advisory on the subject: https://thrombosiscanada.ca/wp-uploads/uploads/2021/03/National-Release-March-18-2021-Final_FR.pdf
Feel free to contact me with any additional questions.
Happy day,
