Hello,

What do you mean by neuroleptic? As this term can encompass a very large number of drug classes, I would like to know for which indication such a drug could be prescribed. Since psychotropic medications affect several neurotransmitters, your answer will help me better answer your question.

Also, what particular anticholinergic effect would you like to avoid?

My cousin wants to avoid the effects of confusion, delirium, hallucinations and memory problems.

I forgot one important detail: my cousin has borderline personality disorder and sometimes suffers from auditory hallucinations. He has never taken a neuroleptic, but he is not interested in taking one that may cause what he is trying to avoid.

There are indeed new generation (or atypical) neuroleptics that are less likely to cause the disorders described. You should also know that his case requires the intervention of a specialist doctor, if it is not already so, and that together they will determine the right medication according to the desired and undesired effects.
