I have been dizzy and lightheaded since I started Wellbutrin (2 weeks). I used to take Cipralex. Is this because I can't tolerate the new medication?

I stopped my previous antidepressant which was Cipralex 20mg because of excessive sleepiness, weight gain and loss of libido. My doctor prescribed Wellbutrin instead, 2 weeks ago, which I took at 150mg the first week, and I'm now up to 300mg. Since the very beginning, I have been experiencing dizziness, vertigo, nausea. It is bearable, but very unpleasant. In addition, I still have excessive sleepiness (note that I sleep enough during the night). How long am I supposed to experience these side effects? Is it possible that this medication is not for me and that is why I am experiencing these effects?

Was your Cipralex stopped all at once, or gradually? And how long had you been taking it? That you have been experiencing these effects since the very beginning makes me think that it could be due, at least in part, to a too rapid withdrawal from Cipralex.

My cipralex was indeed stopped all of a sudden. It's since I've been taking 300mg that I've been feeling the effects of cipralex for a year.

That it is not the withdrawal of cipralex that causes these effects since it is especially since the increase of the dose of wellbutrin that it is the worst

I see.

First of all, you should know that the choice of Wellbutrin in your case is a good one, considering the little information I have about you. It is indeed less likely to affect libido and cause drowsiness than the antidepressants typically used, including Cipralex.

Considering that you have been taking the "high dose" of Wellbutrin for 1 week and that you consider the effects bearable (although very unpleasant), I would recommend you to persevere for a few more days. Of course, avoid any situation that requires constant vigilance (such as driving) and do not tolerate these symptoms for more than 2 weeks. Your body should get used to the new medication by this time. If it does not, it may be because the medication is not right for you. You and your doctor can then find the right alternative for you.

Fine, I'll wait a little longer. Another small point, I was prescribed Cipralex for a major depression but also because of a strong anxiety. I read that Wellbutrin was not used to treat anxiety. What is really the case? (I have started taking it again since the change in medication)

You are right. Wellbutrin is not a better choice for treating anxiety. It may actually increase your symptoms, because it is more stimulating than most medications used to relieve depression. Did your doctor have this information when he or she prescribed the medication? In any case, wait a few days and consult your doctor if your dizziness/vertigo or anxiety symptoms are still present.
