If I have been in contact with HPV, how long does it stay in my body and how long is it contagious?

Hello, after a gynecological exam with my doctor, the results show that I have been in contact with the vph. My doctor said that she doesn't see anything to worry about, but that she will still do a follow-up in 6 months to make sure everything is ok. I was wondering if I can still have sex until then? I know that the virus stays for several months, but approximately how long does it stay in my body? And how long is it contagious and can I transmit it to other partners? Thanks

Hello, ma'am,
Some strains of HPV can last much longer than a few months and may be permanently present. It is therefore suggested to wear a condom during sexual relations to reduce the risk of transmission. This risk will not be zero, but it will be reduced.

Okay, thanks. Is there any way to know what type of vph I've been in contact with so I know if it's a type that will be permanent? And if it is, that it is a type that will stay permanently does that mean I will be contagious all my life? Thanks

Tests can detect certain strains (that can cause cancer). Your doctor will order further tests if deemed necessary.
