Is it safe to take cyclobenzaprine for more than two weeks?

42-year-old woman3 years ago
My doctor prescribed Naproxen 500 mg twice a day and cyclobenzaprine 10 mg once a day to help treat persistent upper back pain. The medications were prescribed along with recommendations to see a physiotherapist as well as to have my work position evaluated by an ergonomist. I am wondering about this since the repeats on both medications are 2x60 for Naproxen and 3x20 for cyclobenzaprine. I have read in a few places that it is not recommended to take the muscle relaxant for more than two weeks, so I am confused. I have no allergies and the only other medication I take daily is Alesse annovulant. I take vitamin D and probiotics. Thank you so much!

Hello,
First of all, you can be reassured about using the product for more than 2 weeks. It is perfectly safe to take it over a longer period of time. The mention of 2 weeks is mainly to ensure that the person has medical follow-up for pain that persists (which seems to be your case)

Is Naprosyn effective for your pain?
Is cyclobenzaprine effective in relieving muscle stiffness?

The Naproxen seemed to help more when my pain was worse. I stopped using it for 48 hours to see the benefit (or not) rendered at that point. I have been taking it for 28 days. The muscle relaxant worked well in that I woke up with almost no pain or stiffness. The latter reappeared later in the day. I took the latter for 20 days and did not renew it immediately because I was not sure
My pain is a little more uncomfortable without the naproxen so I think I will get both renewed. I started physiotherapy two weeks ago. It seems to be paying off slowly. Thank you for the quick response.
