Is insomnia a side effect of Cipralex? Is Cipralex better than Effexor for treating anxiety?

Good morning, ma'am.
The Cipralex monograph mentions the possibility of insomnia with Cipralex. However, you should keep in mind the following: insomnia does not occur in everyone but is possible; if it does, it tends to be temporary and disappears with time. On the other hand, the onset of action and maximum activity with this product may take several weeks and you will have to be patient if you start it.
Insomnia is often multi-factorial, you will have to keep a good sleep hygiene in order to get the required rest. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need to.
There are no real head-to-head studies between Cipralex and Effexor but both are in the first line of treatment. The Effexor monograph also mentions the possibility of insomnia because this molecule is often a bit "stimulating.
If a trial with one of them proves unsuccessful after 8 weeks, a change to another molecule (or even an addition) is possible, but there is no single recipe.
I hope I have answered your question, please do not hesitate to contact me if you need help.

Thanks Tom! So the effexor molecule is supposedly a little more stimulating than Cipralex? Thank you for your answers, they helped me a lot!

Both molecules can be stimulating or even cause drowsiness. It is difficult to predict the effects in each individual..
In practice I suggest to start them in the morning, and to change the intake to the evening if you feel drowsiness or fatigue.

Thank you! Last question, is effexor more fattening than cipralex?
Naji-tom Samaha · 7 years ago
Cipralex and Effexor are not associated with weight gain

Effexor is also an anxiolytic so is it more addictive, will withdrawal be more difficult?

Actually, I have been taking effexor for 2 days and I feel really amorphous, no morale

Effexor falls into the broad class of antidepressants. It is used for many conditions, including chronic anxiety disorder, as is Cipralex.
By their mechanism, they help to reduce anxiety by establishing a better balance of some of our neurotransmitters, such as serotonin, and also noradrenaline for Effexor, among others.
Whatever the antidepressant, they do not cause dependence as such, but they should not be stopped abruptly after a long intake (we are talking about several weeks to several months). It is true that Effexor must be weaned (stopped gradually) over a longer period of time, but your doctor and pharmacist will be able to provide you with a schedule appropriate to your needs when the time comes.
Ideally, these medications should be started gradually to avoid side effects such as headaches and dizziness. Keep in mind that these side effects are rare and tend to diminish or disappear with time.
