Is it possible to "protect" an 8 year old from repeated pinworms (besides hand washing, nail clipping and such). He had 6 infections in 1 year. Could probiotics help? Thanks!!!

Worm treatment taken 6x and repeated after 2 weeks each time for the whole family. Only the 8 year old gets this. We have no pets and we are not in contact with animals and children in daycare. The school has been informed each time.

Unfortunately, probiotics will not help your child (at least not for the prevention of pinworm recurrence). The tips that work well are those described in the following document (http://publications.msss.gouv.qc.ca/msss/fichiers/guide-garderie/chap7-oxyurose.pdf, on page 7) written by the Government of Quebec.

Having said that, a child who has had 6 episodes of pinkeye within a year should be seen by a doctor in my opinion. He or she may then consider another medication such as Vermox.
