Hello,
Thank you for your question
There is a risk of exposure to several diseases in the Dominican Republic so it is important to leave well protected. I advise you to make an appointment with a travel health service (available in private clinics or in some pharmacies)
First of all, it is important to have an up-to-date vaccination against Hepatitis A and B. Depending on your age, you may have received it as part of your regular vaccination schedule or it may need to be added. You can refer to your vaccination record or your doctor
There is also a significant risk of malaria in some parts of the country. Bring your itinerary to your consultation to better guide the professional. It might be wise to take a malaria prevention medication during your stay to limit the risks. Mosquito repellent and non-medicinal measures (wear long clothing, avoid periods of high mosquito activity, avoid perfumes) are of course recommended
There is also a growing problem of dengue fever, a disease transmitted by mosquito bites for which there is no reliable treatment. Hence the importance of protecting yourself from mosquitoes
In short, depending on your destination, certain measures may or may not apply to you. I invite you to make an appointment with your pharmacist for more information
On that note, enjoy your trip!
If you have any other questions, don't hesitate
