Hello, I am 27 weeks pregnant and my gyneco prescribed Prometrium to calm my false contractions.

I had a classic emergency type c-section for my boy in 2018 and for this pregnancy, I'm going to have a planned c-section so I don't have contractions beforehand. I would like to know if this medication has an impact on the baby, if I will feel it less or what effect it could have on my health since I didn't get any details really at the counter. Thank you.

Hello and thank you for the question :)
Yes, we frequently see the prescription of prometrium to be inserted in the vagina to reduce the occurrence of preterm labor (which could lead to a too early delivery or miscarriage).
This practice is recommended by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada.
Prometrium is actually a hormone, progesterone, which acts, among other things, to reduce uterine contractions.
In studies conducted to date, there was no difference between vaginal progesterone and placebo in terms of side effects for the mother or risk of birth defects.
Does this answer all your questions? I will leave the question open in case you have any other questions.
I look forward to hearing from you :)

Thank you for your answer! I am reassured. I feel quite a bit of fatigue, but especially a return to the "mood swing" and really on edge like at the beginning of the pregnancy. Can the fact that I'm taking hormones have an impact?

Great thanks for the information.
Actually, the action of vaginal progesterone is very local, at the uterine level.
However, there may be some absorption at the blood level, although probably limited.
I cannot confirm or deny that this slight absorption is related to what you are feeling at the moment.
Take the time to rest, that's the key ;)
Have a good evening,
Emmanuelle
