I am 6 weeks pregnant and have been using Arthri Plus spray about once a day since the beginning of my pregnancy. What are the risks for the baby?

Sorry for the delay. I wanted to confirm my findings with specialists from the IMAGe Center at Ste-Justine Hospital.

Concerning Arthri Plus, there is no data on its use in pregnancy. When the ingredients are taken separately (menthol, peppermint, camphor, eucalyptus, clove), there is little information about their effects on pregnancy and the fetus.

Based on these facts, it is recommended that you do not use Arthri Plus during pregnancy. As for your baby's exposure to the product, I think it was a good idea for you to ask the question here and to stop using it. You should know that during the 4 weeks after your last period, there is no blood exchange between the mother and the baby, so a product that has been used on your skin for the last 6 weeks may have actually been in contact with your baby for only 2 weeks. So there is no need to worry about anything else.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of taking a folic acid supplement.

Also, the IMAGe center recommends the scent-free Myoflex if you want to continue to apply product to your back and neck. I agree with this recommendation.
