Hello
I received an I/M injection of cortisone to relieve an arthritis attack.
How long does it take to be effective?
I still have pain in several places, but instead of being a 7/10 pain, it is 5/10

Good morning, ma'am,
This type of treatment may take 2 to 3 weeks to be fully effective. However, an infiltration may not bring your pain down to 0/10.
If your pain decreases to 4/10 or remains at 5/10 for a long period of time, the infiltration would be considered a success.
I want to emphasize that you should not limit yourself to the pain figure. It is important to focus on your ability to go about your daily activities and preserve or improve your level of function. This is why I strongly suggest, if you haven't already done so, that you start physiotherapy treatments. Most group insurance plans cover this type of service
I hope I've been helpful, so please don't hesitate if you have any further questions!

However, it is not an injection as an infiltration into the joint. It's intramuscular with slow diffusion in the whole body instead of taking prednisone p.o. Which causes me too many side effects.
