Is it possible that taking effexor over several years makes the person drowsy, continually tired, without energy? It happened 2 times that he forgot to take his medication in the morning and the following evening he was unable to sleep all night, dizziness present during the day with headache. Thank you in advance.

Hello, normally, taking effexor for several years should not make a person drowsy or continuously tired, on the contrary. These side effects can be felt at the beginning of treatment but generally fade away within a few days/weeks. If these effects appear after several months, ineffectiveness or an insufficient dose should be suspected and the doctor should be consulted. On the other hand, the fact of having forgotten a dose and then having experienced dizziness/insomnia is probably more attributable to a "withdrawal" effect... especially if the usual dose is relatively high (above 75 mg), the fact of having forgotten a dose can cause this kind of inconvenience. I hope to have answered your question, do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions, have a nice day, Isabelle Pelletier, pharmacist
