What do you recommend for ear pain?

25-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, since yesterday in the day, I have a pain in the right ear. I could explain it as if it was blocked, but with a pressure inside. Moreover, from this ear, I hear a constant noise of waves/wind, but not at the rhythm of my heartbeat. It had subsided a bit with a warm water compress and normal Tylenols, but not for long. The pain came back during the night and I was not able to go back to sleep. Also, I didn't go to a pool and I didn't take a plane, causes I would have understood my pain.

Good morning, ma'am,
If your ears are not completely blocked, I suggest nasal hygiene with a saline solution (Hydrasense, Sinus Rinse and others), which can be done as often as necessary during the day, and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. By 'cleaning' the nasal secretions, the feeling of pressure in the sinuses and ears can be reduced
Tylenol can help relieve pain, so you can continue to take it. Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin and other brands, if you have no contraindications to taking them, your pharmacist can confirm this) can also help with pain.
If the situation persists for more than 7 days without improvement or gets worse, you should consult a doctor.
I hope I've been helpful, so please don't hesitate if you have any other questions!

Thank you I will try it all! Do you have a recommendation if I fly in 2 weeks?
I'm really sensitive to pressure on the plane and I'm trying to find things, other than gum, yawns and plane plugs, to avoid this ear pain!
thanks again!

Are you taking any other medications, pregnant or trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding?

No, I didn't
(small update, I did what you said before I went to bed last night, but still, I couldn't sleep because of the pressure/pain in my ear. I know it's not going to get better in one night haha)

Thanks for the feedback!
There are decongestant nasal sprays like Dristan, Drixoral or others, which can be taken twice a day mas for a maximum of 3 to 5 days. You can also try this in addition to the other measures listed, and about 45 minutes before takeoff.

Thank you! Do you think that for my current earache ear drops would help? (In the polysporin style brand)

Considering the pain accompanied by a feeling of pressure, I do not recommend the drops as they are unlikely to have an effect.

Hello! My ear doesn't hurt anymore, but it's still blocked, what can I do?
thank you :)

Good morning, Madam,
If you have not used the nasal decongestant mentioned, we can try that, and I also suggest, if the ear is not completely blocked, nasal showers often during the day
Then I suggest the valsalva technique: take a deep breath, then close the nostrils and close the mouth, and try to exhale afterwards. Swallowing immediately afterwards can help to rebalance the pressure in the sinuses.
If this technique does not work after 3 days, as a precautionary measure you should consult a doctor.
