Can I give him benadryl despite the reactin this morning?

My son is almost 4 years old and has started having seasonal allergies. He received reactin this morning but now his eyes are puffy and he keeps rubbing them. Can I give him benadryl to help with the itching? there is no risk that he becomes resistant to reactin by giving him every day?
