Hello, my 5 year old daughter started her fever since Friday morning. She has a fever of about 39. She coughs a lot, lacks energy and appetite and she complains of heart ache often. Do the symptoms resemble those of influenza... ??? Last night, she vomited 3 times. Since Saturday, the fever varies between 38 and 39. She doesn't eat much, she tells us that she has a heart ache. This morning she has a fever of 38 and complains of heart ache.

Good morning, ma'am,
Your child has a fever if his rectal temperature is 38.1 degrees Celsius or higher. If the fever lasts 72 hours or more, you should see a doctor right away.
Tylenol or Advil depending on weight can be given for fever, and Gravol for nausea.
Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids at a rate of 1 to 2 sips every 5 minutes to avoid causing nausea. Encourage light foods such as soups, broths, toast with butter, eggs and crackers.
Other than a fever that lasts 72 hours, if symptoms persist for more than a week without improvement, you should consult a doctor.
I will remain available if you have any other questions or if she has other symptoms!
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
