Do I really need to take the antidepressants my doctor prescribed?

32-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, I am off work for a depressive state. I have always been anxious by nature. Until November I was seeing a shrink when needed and in November I started to feel really overwhelmed. At the beginning of February, I went to see a doctor (not my family doctor) who put me on leave from work. I started weekly psychotherapy sessions which helped me a lot. I had a follow-up with my family doctor this time who prescribed antidepressants. I'm not ready to take them yet. I am willing to start therapy. Do I have to take them? Thank you

Hello ma'am, thank you for your question!
It is quite difficult to answer yes or no.. On the one hand, you are not obliged to take what you don't want, on the other hand, your health condition has been affected enough for you to consult a doctor, and his evaluation directed his decision to prescribe this treatment. It would be appropriate, if you do not wish to follow his recommendation, to speak to the prescriber, or at least your family physician and psychologist.
I hope this has been helpful to you and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me
