Can milk thistle help the liver?

24-year-old woman3 years ago
Use of milk thistle: I take metformin (1000mg per day divided into two doses: breakfast and supper). This is the only medication I use. I walk at least 30 minutes a day and I pay attention to my diet. My balances are improving, but the ALT has remained at the same level (89) and the alkaline phosphatase has increased (from 121 to 140). However, the other data have improved: AST: 55 to 41 GGT: 173 to 134 Fasting glucose: 11.6 to 7.9 HBA1C: 9% to 7.4 My doctor is on vacation and I want to see improvement as soon as possible. Can I start using milk thistle and increase my intake of foods that can, combined with a balanced diet and some exercise, help my liver a little. What do you think? Do you have anything else to recommend?

Thank you for your question!
The data on milk thistle is not conclusive enough for me to recommend it to you. You seem to be doing well otherwise, and you have a good follow-up with your doctor, I'm very happy about that
If you ever want to try this product, be advised that it has, in some cases, helped lower blood sugar. So, if you take it, you will have to test your blood sugar a little more closely to prevent hypoglycemia. Also, it will be important to tell your doctor.
I hope I've answered your questions, but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions!
