Should I just apply a topical cream and take anti-inflammatories or could this be a more urgent matter?

I had a small lump like a ball of flesh in front of my ear at the corner of my jaw that came and went sporadically. This time it seemed more present and less flexible. As it bothered me, I tended to want to do it like with a button. I felt a break but nothing on the surface. Since then (two days ago), I feel like it's increasing in size, exerting pressure and growing in my ear and down to my jaw.
