Is this normal? Should I be concerned about contraception (given the spotting) and infection (given the symptoms)?

A few days ago, I had protected penetrative sex and I had pain during it. Right after the intercourse, I had some small bleeding. I have also been spotting on the pill since then (for about 3-4 days). I have been feeling irritated and itchy ever since. I read on the internet that it could be vaginal dryness. Before this relationship, I hadn't had any sexual activity for a while, so I was anxious. I had also been tested before and had not tested positive for any STIs. Also, I had never had, to my knowledge, vaginitis, etc...

Good morning, ma'am,
As long as your contraceptive is taken regularly, it should be effective
Spotting may occur from time to time but does not necessarily indicate a problem as long as it remains light and temporary
If your symptoms persist for more than a week without improvement, I suggest that you consult a doctor as a precaution.
Sincerely,

But can vaginal dryness really cause these symptoms?
Naji-tom Samaha · 2 years ago
Yes, dryness can cause itching and irritation. It can also occur after sex if it was a little vigorous or if potentially irritating products were used, such as a condom with spermicide or flavouring, or a scented lubricant.

Perfect, thank you.

Is there anything I can do to alleviate these symptoms?

Avoid using soaps or douches, water should be sufficient. Avoid flavoured or spermicidal condoms. Wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothing
If you have never had these symptoms and the situation persists, you should consult a doctor so as not to delay the proper treatment, if necessary.

i have another question: i have had oral sex without a condom (penetration with a condom but not oral sex)
i read on the internet that the symptoms mentioned above are also related to herpes. i have looked around and i don't see any lesions. would that worry you or do you really think it's vaginal dryness?

The description of your symptoms is indeed quite common, but it is impossible to determine the exact cause without a proper medical evaluation. This is why I suggest consulting a doctor if the situation persists, unfortunately.
