I have had a sore throat for the past month, should I go see a doctor?

Hello, I had 3 tonsillitis in the last years, one in December 2022 and one in January 2023. Following that, my tonsils are always swollen and red and it hurts. The pain stretches into my ear but I don't have a fever or stink in my throat. The pain is constant. I can still eat, but it's uncomfortable and it doesn't go away. I know that when we cover a viral infection it can swell up but I never had this problem before and I think that 1 month is a long time.

Hello ma'am, I'm sorry to read about your troubles!
Do you have any other symptoms at the moment such as a blocked or runny nose, even a little bit, coughing or other?
Has your discomfort been constant for the past month or is it just a matter of time?

Hello, no runny nose. No cough. It's swollen all the time but the worst is in the evening and in the morning. I have small red veins on my tonsils but no infection

Thank you for the information, I am sorry for the delay in my reply, I had not seen the notification!
If the pain persists for more than 7 days without improvement after its onset, unfortunately you will need to see a doctor to rule out other causes and not delay proper management of the problem.
In the meantime, Tylenol and lozenges such as Halls or Fisherman's Friend can relieve the pain, and I encourage you to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot, as you prefer.
Sincerely,
Tom Samaha, pharmacist
