Are the side effects of antidepressants temporary?

60-year-old woman3 years ago
Hello, I have been taking escitalopram 5mg for 10 days and I have very intense side effects that do not diminish, palpitations, sweaty hands and feet, dizziness, feeling of drunkenness and sometimes pressure in my eyes, pressure on my bladder. The effects start 20 minutes after taking the medication and diminish around 4:00 in the afternoon. I have difficulty driving my car because my reflexes are not good when the side effects are there.

Hi, thank you for your question.
The side effects associated with escitalopram may take 7 to 14 days to subside. However, if, as you describe, they are intolerable, or affect your quality of life and ability to carry out your activities too much, I must refer you to your pharmacist. After a short consultation to better understand your needs, he/she can contact your doctor for alternatives.
I hope I've been helpful, and please don't hesitate if you have any further questions!
