My 5 year old boy has a cough and a fever?

Hello, I have a 5 year old boy. He has been coughing since Monday but since Tuesday he has been coughing continuously. Since Tuesday morning, he has a fever. Last night during the night he had such a high fever that he was shivering without being able to control it. I gave him Advil and he threw it up about an hour later (I didn't have a thermometer because I wasn't at home). And tonight again 39.1 fever so I was wondering when is it worth going to see a doctor so I don't get told ah it hasn't been 72 hours. Thanks in advance

Hello Mrs
As you mentioned, it is suggested that you consult a physician if the fever has been present for 72 hours, or if your child is unable to eat/drink, is very lethargic, or is showing signs or symptoms of dehydration.
In the meantime, you can continue Advil (or Tylenol).
Nasal hygiene with saline solutions such as Salinex, SInus Rinse and others, remains the best option to relieve the cough, as well as encouraging your son to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot, as he prefers.
I hope this has been helpful and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
