My daughter has conjunctivitis?

32-year-old woman2 years ago
Conjunctivitis for 5 days in my 2.5 year old daughter. Wakes up with gluey eyes, yellowish secretions, no red eye whites and no pain/heat complaints. Should I go to the doctor or let time do its work?

Hello, thank you for your question!
Has your daughter recently had a cold, runny or stuffy nose? Is the yellowish discharge only after waking up, or is it throughout the day (is the discharge clearer during waking hours)?
Thanks in advance!

Hello!
She had a cold just before she developed symptoms of conjunctivitis. The yellowish secretions are mostly when she wakes up, but she may have some during the day. It is getting less and less.
Thank you for your help!

Thanks for the feedback!
Often it is the cold that has 'gone up' in the eyes. This, like a cold, goes away on its own after 5-7 days. You can use a clean wet towel to clean the eyes, as long as you don't share it because it can be contagious.
Since your child is not complaining, there is no need to add another measure, otherwise I would have suggested the application of artificial tears like Systane Ultra, Refresh Tears, or Hydrasense drops, to improve comfort.
If the situation persists for more than 7 days, the discharge becomes darker, or other new symptoms occur, a doctor should be consulted.
I hope this has been helpful to you, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions!
