I am a teacher and I am losing my voice, what can I do?

31-year-old womana year ago
I am a 30 year old primary school teacher. Since November I have been losing my voice regularly. I don't lose it completely, but it goes out and I often have to clear my throat. In the middle of December, I had COVID and it has continued into sinusitis. I had 10 days of antibiotics and that was not enough to definitively eliminate my symptoms. For some time now my sinusitis has been getting better, but once again I am losing my voice. It's starting to make me tired. I often have to clear my throat. I don't really have any pain, but sometimes I get up with a sore throat and a runny nose.

Good morning, ma'am,
Have you tried anything for this problem?
Do you have other symptoms such as a runny or blocked nose, even a little?
Are you currently taking any other medication?

Hello,
I have not tried anything to this day except to do a few sinus rinses. No medication, during my sinusitis I took Advil every day for the pain. But I stopped taking it a while ago.
My nose doesn't really run. I blow my nose in the morning and when I go outside. I don't cough either, but I do clear my throat a few times. Right now, I feel like it's coming back a little bit. It's when I sing songs to my kids that I notice my voice is unstable...like it's actually mutating.

Thanks for the information!
On the face of it, I think you did the right thing with nasal hygiene. This problem can often be caused by secretions from the sinuses flowing back into the throat like a leaky faucet. You can perform nasal hygiene as often as necessary during the day and at least 30 minutes before bedtime. I also encourage you to drink plenty of fluids, cold or hot depending on your preference. Lozenges like Halls or Fisherman's Friend can also help stimulate salivation.
I am reassured that you are reporting a small improvement in the situation. I encourage you to try these measures or continue them if you do. I will be available if you have any further questions!
