How long should I take medication for an enlarged prostate?

For the last 5 months I have been taking Rapafo 8 mg and Finasteride 5 mg to check if the PSA ( 4,5 ) is related to a cancer or an hypertrophy of the prostate. 3 biopsies over 5 years have not detected any cancer. I am 66 years old.
Will I have to continue taking these drugs for the rest of my life, or if the PSA drops below 4, can I stop?

Hello, thank you for your question!
Finasteride is used to help relieve the urinary symptoms and complications of benign prostatic hyperplasia, but it may also help prevent prostate cancer. That being said, it's difficult to predict whether you'll need to take it for life. If you tolerate it well, and it seems to be effective in reducing the size of the prostate, it is recommended that you continue it for the very long term.
If you want to stop taking it, you will simply have to inform your doctor to ensure the necessary follow-up.
I hope I've helped you, and I'm available if you have any further questions!
