Is Valtrex contraindicated in pregnancy?

Hello, for about 8 months I have been taking valtrex daily. My doctor had prescribed this treatment for my cold sores which were very painful, voluminous and frequent. Prescription: 2 tablets a day for 6 months and then 1 tablet a day for another 6 months. However, I am not able to stop the medication nor to decrease it because as soon as I do, the cold sores start again. With 2 tablets a day, I don't have any cold sores at all. I am trying to get pregnant, I want to know the risks, contraindications, effects that taking valtrex can have on the fetus, etc. Hello, Great!!! Thank you very much for your answer! It reassures me! Hello, Thank you for your question! Valtrex is generally compatible with pregnancy. I wouldn't worry about continuing the treatment while you are trying to get pregnant; the treatment can most likely be continued during pregnancy as well, since current studies do not suggest an increased risk of malformation or abnormality with Valtrex I hope that I have answered your question and I am available for more information if needed!
