I have mild kidney failure and I read on the label that it could attack the kidneys. I consulted a nephrologist last year and it seems that I had nothing serious because I had no results from my consultation. A chiro suggested this product to a friend to prevent urinary infections.

Hello,
It is true that we hear a lot about cranberries to prevent urinary tract infections. The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) has reviewed the current data and here is what it says:
- According to the latest studies, cranberry juice and its derivatives could, over a 12-month period, reduce the number of urinary tract infections by about 33%, especially in women who have them repeatedly, i.e., who have 3 or more infections per year. In other types of people, the product would possibly have less benefits.
- Although cranberry capsules would be more effective than cranberry juice, we do not know the optimal quantity, concentration and duration for the product to be most effective.
So, the SOGC leaves it up to individuals to make their decision based on this current data. Regarding renal failure, I have not found any data advising against cranberries in this situation.
