Can I fast if I am taking Effexor?

23-year-old woman2 years ago
Hello, I am taking effexors but even though I am eating healthy I have gained a lot of weight. Before taking effexors, I had already fasted for 7 days without food, only water and essential electrolytes. I fasted and every 7 days I allowed myself to eat 2 days. I did all this for 3 months. Fasting did miracles for my overweight!!! Because even after the fasting was over my weight didn't increase at all no matter what I did!!! It's like it completely threw my hormones to their doom!

Good morning, ma'am,
It is highly recommended to take Effexor with food
Having said that, I have to tell you that this kind of 'diet' is very worrying to me, especially during the hot summer months. Consuming only water (and electrolytes) does not provide what your body needs to function, including proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, etc. What happens during this kind of 'diet' is that your body draws on reserves, and the metabolism slows down greatly. Starving yourself in this way cannot produce a sustainable weight loss over time, so the weight lost will eventually be regained, if not more. You mention having gained weight even though you have done this type of diet in the past.
You mention gaining weight even if you eat healthy. I highly recommend consulting a nutritionist and a kinesiologist to develop an eating and exercise plan that is realistic for you, effective, and safe in the long run.
I hope I've been helpful, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions
